The first job is stopping water, not finishing a repair. We locate the shutoff, isolate what we can, and get the house dry before talking about anything else.
While you wait for us: the main shutoff is usually at the street side of the house near the hose bib, or in a box at the curb. Turning it clockwise is what you want.
